If the folder does not exist, Thunderbird will attempt to create it.
If it cannot be created, Thunderbird will hang until you cancel the send.
So, you need to disable the client to save the file on the server but only locally: Account Settings Select 'Copies and Folders' under your account.
Configure your LSU Student, Faculty or Staff e-mail in the Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail client. If you do not have any folders made, or are not subscribed to any, click Manage Folder Subscriptions. Choose the folders you want by clicking the check box next to it.

The new folder should now appear on the left side menu. Right-click on the folder and choose New Sub-folder. Type in the name of the subfolder and click create folder. Click the arrow next to the original folder and the subfolder will now appear below it.
However, in the "Folders" pane, all folders are displayed because of the unchecked option.

This problem started on my Linux machine, and I went to my Windows machine to see if I could export the folders in question to my Linux machine...I set up a new account under Thunderbird with an IMAP in-going and SMTP out-going.All mails and folders are correclty imported from the server. For the time being, the only way I can see the folders I need is by including the folders I want to hide.
